Australia’s Future Submarine – Sydney Mechanics School of Arts

My submarine talk has been rescheduled, for Tuesday, 17 March 2015, 12:30pm – 1:30pm

Venue: Mitchell Theatre

‘Submarines have loomed ever larger in the news of late, from the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Abe in 2014, with subsequent media reports on the possibility of Australia buying Japanese Soryu Class submarines, to the recent use of submarines as bargaining chips in shoring up political support for the Prime Minister.

The Future Submarine will be one of the biggest and most expensive infrastructure projects in Australian history, as ambitious as the Snowy Mountain Hydro-electric Scheme or the National Broadband Network.

Join writer and policy analyst Claire Corbett, who covers naval and strategic defence issues for the national magazine The Monthly, to discuss our Future Submarine and discover why the decision is so complex and difficult.’

Unfortunately illness meant I had to cancel this – a shame as I know there were a few looking forward to it. May reschedule for early next year – this issue won’t be going away any time soon.

Master Classes with Thomas Keneally and me at SMSA

‘This master class is a unique opportunity to learn the craft of writing from Booker Prize-winner Thomas Keneally and author Claire Corbett in the beautiful Tom Keneally Centre.

3 x fortnightly classes as follows:
10:00am – 4:00pm,
Wed 19 March 2014
Wed 2 April 2014
Wed 16 April 2014

Over 3 fortnightly sessions, participants will gain the skills to stimulate and enhance their writing.

Covering the philosophy of writing, plotting, moving forward when stuck and how to approach publishers, the sessions will also offer participants valuable one-on-one time with Tom Keneally for feedback and coaching on their writing projects.

The classes are two weeks apart to allow participants to practice what they have learned between sessions.’
